The Keynote Presentation was hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the People's Government of Henan Province, and organized by the Zhengzhou Municipal People's Government, the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Henan Province, the Henan Association for Science and Technology and the China Instrument and Control Society (CIS).

You Zheng, President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Vice President of CAST and Chairman of CIS

You Zheng, President of HUST, Academician of CAE, Vice President of CAST and Chairman of CIS, hosted the Keynote Presentation.

Barry J. Marshall, 2005 Nobel Laureate and Clinical Professor at the University of Western Australia

Barry J. Marshall, 2005 Nobel Laureate, Clinical Professor at the University of Western Australia and Foreign Member of CAE, delivered an instructive speech entitled Experience in Biotech Innovation. He was awarded the 2005 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), the cause of gastritis and gastric ulcer. He introduced the process of H. pylori from detection and discovery to medical application, explaining how biotech innovation and sensor technology save time and reduce costs in medical application. He said we should create new products and innovative business models with entrepreneurship, which will lead to the application of disruptive technologies.

Joseph Wang, Professor at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD)

Joseph Wang, Professor at UCSD, made a keynote presentation entitled Wearable Electrochemical Sensors: Lab on Body. He introduced the continuous monitoring of human medical health data anytime and anywhere by chemical sensors, flexible wearable electronics and MEMS sensors. These sensors not only detect vital signs, but also obtain rich and valuable information by collecting chemical information from chemical markers.

Jiang Zhuangde, Academician of CAE and Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU)

Jiang Zhuangde, Academician of CAE and Professor at XJTU, made a keynote presentation entitled Research Progress and Application of Advanced Sensing Technology. He considered sensing, communication and computing as three pillars for the modern information industry, and introduced the application of sensing technology in a wide range of fields such as aerospace, national defense, intelligent manufacturing, major equipment and AI based on his research findings.

Saifur Rahman, President Elect of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

Saifur Rahman, President Elect of IEEE, made a keynote presentation entitled Energy Efficiency in Smart Buildings through IoT Sensor Integration. He introduced the application of sensors in the setup of low-cost extensible building automation systems. In addition to open buildings, his team has worked out a set of solutions for building energy management, to improve device sensing and control in buildings, reduce peak loads on buildings and save energy.

Finally, the moderator--Academician You Zheng said as a source of data and information, sensors have promoted the digitalization and networking of industries, as well as the intelligent development of products. Remarkably, the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality will generate huge demand for all industries, especially sensing technology. I hope we will work together to overcome all hardships arising in sensor innovation, and the future of the sensor industry is worth expectation.

The WSS 2022 Keynote Presentation has come to a successful conclusion, while 10 sub-events will stay focused on advanced sensor technology, industrial foundation, application scenarios, industrial ecology and other topics. At the same time, 90 outstanding entries have been selected into the final of the China (International) Transducer & Sensor Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest for a showdown in Zhengzhou. The Science and Technology Achievements Exhibition will attract nearly more than 200 enterprises, research institutes and universities from China and abroad. Please stay tuned for more about WSS 2022.
